Windows compatibility list
Pine Shortcut picks an input method per window and retries with another one if it fails. This table marks an item as confirmed only when we tested it ourselves. Everything else is marked not yet tested. We do not promise it works in every program.
Character handling (confirmed by unit tests)
| Target | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Emoji, combining marks, flags, skin tone variants | Confirmed | Split on character boundaries, never in the middle of a sequence |
| Hangul NFC/NFD, right-to-left text, long text (thousands of characters) | Confirmed | Identical to the original after save, load and import |
| Format characters { } % \ , line breaks and tabs | Confirmed | Unchanged by the variable parser |
Real windows, by program
| Target | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Notepad, Chrome, Edge, Windows Terminal | Test written, not yet run | A test exists, but we do not list it as confirmed yet |
| Word, Excel, Hangul, KakaoTalk, Discord, Slack, Notion, Google Docs | Not yet tested | |
| Firefox, Whale, Brave, Opera, WordPad | Not yet tested | |
| VS Code, JetBrains | Not yet tested | |
| WPF, UWP/WinUI, Electron, Qt, Java, Delphi/MFC apps | Not yet tested | |
| Remote Desktop, virtual machines, Citrix | Not yet tested | |
| Windows running as administrator | Not yet tested | Pine running as a normal user may be unable to type into an elevated window |
| Games (full screen, with anti-cheat software) | Not yet tested | Security software may block input. We do not use workarounds |
When input is blocked
A program security feature or an administrator window can block input. When it does, the Pine diagnostics screen shows the reason and an alternative, such as pasting into the chat box.
- If a console font cannot draw emoji, the text is still typed but may look like boxes.
- Known variable names such as {date} cannot be typed literally.
